SkyTrax3000 Dual Band ADS-B In Solution for Part 25 Aircraft

Advanced ADS-B In for Commercial and Business Jet Fleets

The Avidyne SkyTrax 3000 is a dual-band ADS-B In system designed to add modern surveillance capabilities to Part 25 cockpits without expensive cockpit overhauls. The TSO-certified system delivers enhanced traffic alerting, comprehensive weather data, and future-ready ADS-B In capabilities—all without modifications to installed TCAS II, transponders, or existing cockpit displays.

Building on Avidyne’s three decades of surveillance experience and more than 25,000 systems in service, SkyTrax 3000 offers commercial operators a cost-effective, low-downtime path to modern surveillance capability that is ready for future ADS-B In applications such as SURF, FIM, and CAVS.

Operational Advantages

  • Dual-Band ADS-B In – Receives all 1090MHz and 978MHz UAT ADS-B signals directly, independent of ground rebroadcast.
  • Hybridized Traffic Awareness – Correlates TCAS II, ADS-B, and TIS-B for accurate, low-nuisance alerting.
  • ATAS Traffic Alerting – Provides precise directional voice callouts and alerting below TCAS minimum altitudes.
  • FIS-B Weather Integration – Displays subscription-free FAA weather on compatible cockpit displays.
  • Future-Ready Architecture – Designed to support SURF, FIM, and CAVS next-gen surveillance functions.
  • Low-Downtime Installation – Installs inline with existing TCAS II and displays—no avionics modification required.
  • Fully Certified – Meets TSO-C166b, TSO-C157b, TSO-C154d, TSO-C195b, and DO-178C/DO-254 DAL B standards.

Why Dual-Band ADS-B In Matters

Legacy TCAS II systems rely on transponder replies to estimate range and altitude, often leading to large protection volumes and unnecessary alerts. By contrast, ADS-B provides precise position, altitude, and velocity data, enabling more accurate and timely traffic advisories.

The SkyTrax 3000 combines TCAS II, 1090MHz and UAT ADS-B, as well as ATC’s secondary radar tracks uplinked via TIS-B to create a comprehensive traffic picture that extends coverage and alerting capability even below TCAS II minimum altitudes.

With its dual-band reception, SkyTrax 3000 detects all ADS-B equipped aircraft, whether transmitting on 1090MHz or 978MHz UAT, ensuring protection during low-altitude and approach operations, even where ground rebroadcast coverage (ADS-R) is limited.

The improved data quality available via ADS-B allows for high-precision alerting even in the most congested airspaces, such as in the terminal environment, reducing nuisance alerts common with TCAS II.

The dual-band architecture also enables operators equipped with 1090MHz ADS-B systems to receive the meteorological and aeronautical data available via FIS-B on the UAT ADS-B frequency.

Certification & Compliance

The SkyTrax 3000 is certified to the following standards: TSO-C166b, TSO-C157b, TSO-C154d, and TSO-C195b, developed to DO-178C and DO-254 DAL B, and packaged in an ATR-form-factor enclosure meeting DO-160 environmental standards.
