Following the initial STC of the Avidyne IFD550/540 in the Cessna CitationJet 525/A Models, Avidyne aims for wider-reaching retrofits in Citation CJ1+, CJ2+ and CJ3.

 – Tuesday, October 16, 2018 –

Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated avionics systems, displays, and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced they are actively involved in multiple FMS upgrade programs to the venerable Cessna Citation series of aircraft, using their IFD550/545 FMS navigators to provide LPV approach capability, electronic approach charts, wireless connectivity, and ADS-B compliance at a much lower price point than competing solutions.

“After successfully integrating the IFD550/540 into the CJ525 and 525A,  we are pleased to announce that we are now actively working multiple certification programs to integrate our highly-capable IFD Series FMS systems into the CJ1+, CJ2+, and CJ3,” said Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn.  “We are seeing significant interest from these aircraft operators who are looking for more affordable avionics modernization options, and we are giving them the most capability and value.”

“We were really excited to get our initial CJ certification in NASCAR legend Bill Elliott’s 2001 Cessna CJ1 and we are currently working on several other retrofit programs including certification of our IFD Series FMS in a CJ3 belonging to the highly-accomplished aviation executive and retired Space Shuttle astronaut Charlie Precourt,”  said John Talmadge, Avidyne’s Director of Worldwide Sales.

“Avidyne’s IFD FMS systems, which feature our innovative new GPS LegacyAviation System (GLAS™) protocol, provides a direct interface to legacy avionics systems in these CitationJet aircraft without the exorbitant costs of external adapter boxes or EFIS factory upgrades, ”  Talmadge added.

Citation CJ1+,  CJ2+,  and CJ3 owners who upgrade to the Avidyne IFD Series FMS systems will add easy-to-use, hybrid-touch FMS capability, autopilot-coupled LPV approach capability, 3D synthetic vision views of nearby terrain, obstacles, and traffic, plus integrated wireless connectivity to the IFD100 and many third-party apps including ForeFlight®, plus an option for  dual Avidyne SkyTrax 322 remote-mount or SkyTrax 340 panel-mounted Mode S transponders for ADS-B OUT compliance.

In July 2018, Avidyne received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval of dual hybrid-touchscreen IFD550/540 Series FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems, for installation in Cessna CitationJet 525 and 525A models with Collins Pro Line 21 and the FGC-3000 Digital Flight Control System.

About the IFD550/IFD545

Avidyne’s IFD550 is a full-featured FMS/GPS/NAV/COM with hybrid-touch user interface that offers pilots the best of touch screen operation, along with dedicated knobs and buttons for easy control through all phases of flight. The IFD545 is GPS-only version of the IFD550, without the VHF NAV/COM functionality, for customers who choose to keep their legacy radios.  IFD550/545 FMS systems feature an integrated Attitude Reference Sensor (ARS).  The ARS detects Pitch and Roll motion and enables the display of dynamic Synthetic Vision (SVS) with full-motion three-dimensional “out-the-window” views as well as exocentric “in-trail” views of the aircraft and nearby terrain, obstacles, traffic and terrain.  The IFD550/545 also gives pilots the ability to overlay Horizontal and Vertical Deviation Indicators, a Total Velocity Vector (TVV)/Flight Path Marker, and adjustable field of regard.  IFD550/545 systems have a list price starting at $19,999.

CEO and founder Dan Schwinn reflects on the company’s 25th anniversary

Oshkosh, WI – Tuesday, July 24, 2018 –

Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated avionics systems, displays and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, a milestone that solidifies the company’s long-standing role as an established brand and industry innovator in the world of avionics.

Dan Schwinn, Avidyne’s CEO and founder remarked that, “At some point, you say to yourself, ‘I’m not the new guy on the block anymore,’ and at 25 years I’m at that point. We’re an established name – we’re not the biggest but we’re really well known – and the people that know about us tend to really love what we do.”

When asked about the dramatic changes the industry has undergone and how Avidyne has survived in these turbulent times, Schwinn continued, “The industry has changed tremendously since the time we started, and we’ve played a significant role in that.  It’s certainly been exciting to be a part of the change and the growth. We established ourselves quickly with our early MFD products, and then set the course for Integrated Flight Decks as standard equipment on virtually all GA aircraft. Now, we have our industry-leading IFD-Series FMS/GPS products along with ADS-B, which are really driving the business. These are exciting products that clearly reflect our core values; namely ease of use with visually-engaging aesthetics, and that is what people like about Avidyne and why they keep coming back.”

These core values of ease of use, product aesthetics, and innovation have made Avidyne an unarguable leader in avionics innovation, boasting a history of industry firsts including being first with a standalone 5”MFD (FSD) in 1997, the first to certify Big Glass Integrated Flight Deck for light GA in 2003, the first color tactical lightning sensor for GA (the TWX670) in 2007, the first digital retrofit autopilot with Env Protection and Straight/Level (the DFC90) in 2010, the first to certify integrated WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity (IFD540) and the first plug-and-play GPS/NAV/COM/FMS (IFD series) in 2014, and the first certified panel-mount GPS with integrated Synthetic Vision (IFD series) in 2017.

Schwinn noted, “Most of the time, you’re in a benign flying environment. Where it really is important for ease of use is when you’re in a highly stressful situation that you rarely encounter. It’s the unfamiliarity of the situation and dealing with the challenge at hand, from high winds to tricky air fields. That’s when ease of use becomes super important and becomes a huge advantage.”

But regardless of the innovative solutions that go into industry-leading technology, Schwinn says that the company’s pilot-centric approach is what sets it apart. “Over our entire existence as a company, we’ve said we want to provide the leading-edge technology that lets pilots do whatever they want to do – but we also want to do it in such a way that it’s usable for just about everybody. We want to design products that have all the latest and greatest technologies – like touch screen displays – but also have the features like knobs and buttons that let people use them without having to study them.  We thank our customers for the first 25 years and look forward to serving them thru innovation for the next 25.”

Avidyne is exhibiting its products – and administering the “Avidyne Challenge” – in Hangar C at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI, from July 23 through 29, 2018.

Melbourne, FL – Wednesday, March 14, 2018 –

Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated avionics systems, displays, and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced they have partnered with FreeFlight Systems (FFS) of Irving, TX, who will be providing their FFS RANGR products for Avidyne customers where demand for ADS-B IN functionality exists.  Avidyne will offer a bundled FFS RANGR ADS-B IN receiver with their IFDs and ADS-B OUT-capable Mode S Transponders.

“With the transition to this FreeFlight partnership, we are pleased to be offering uninterrupted delivery of an ADS-B IN solution as part of our successful IFD/ADS-B bundle, in lieu of the legacy SkyTrax100,” said Mitch Biggs, Avidyne’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing.  “Our IFD550/540/440 product line provides beautiful display and overlay on the moving map of FIS-B weather and ADS-B traffic from the RANGR,  and the IFDs are also the approved GPS position source. ”

“Our SkyTrax100 product, which was supplied to Avidyne by NavWorx.  As has been well publicized, NavWorx found themselves in a position of non-compliance on their ADS-B OUT product and for financial reasons has closed the company,” said Ed Paulsen, Avidyne’s Vice President of New Business Development.  “The SkyTrax 100 product is ‘ADS-B IN Only’ and was unaffected by the compliance issues, and Avidyne was able to procure a significant number of the SkyTrax100 units before NavWorx closed their doors.  However, the increasing demand for our IFD products has now consumed the SkyTrax100 inventory. Avidyne will continue to provide repair services for SkyTrax 100 units under the factory warranty.”

Pricing and Availability

With Avidyne’s ADS-B / IFD promotions, customers will still get an ADS-B IN product and the UAT IN functionality is unchanged at $2,499.  However, going forward the RANGR FDL-978-RX ADS-B IN product will be shipped and supported directly by FreeFlight Systems.

Avidyne IFD customers can purchase a SkyTrax AXP340 or AXP322 Mode S Transponder with ADS-B OUT and a RANGR FDL-978-RX for ADS-B IN for a bundled price of $4,499.
